Policies and Terms for our B&B in Texas

Texas Getaway

Hello guests! We’re happy to welcome you to The Bird & Butterfly Inn, our little haven on the river. At the Bird & Butterfly Inn, we operate on two basic principles – staying with nature, and that we want to be a place that’s sophisticated but hasn’t lost its sense of fun. We mention this because we want ALL of our guests to have fun and be reminded that you’ve chosen to stay in the middle of a forest that literally has nature at every turn. No one really likes to talk about the “do’s and don’ts,” but we feel they’re necessary to ensure that every guest has an enjoyable stay and gets to appreciate this beautiful setting. Past incidents remind us of the need to list – and enforce- each of the following. So, sorry to be a buzzkill, but read on:

Guaranteed Reservations:

Reservations may be made directly online or by calling the inn at (409) 383 1301. All room rates are confirmed at the time of reservation, with a written confirmation emailed to your preferred email address. All correspondence will be sent to the email address provided by the guest booking the reservation.

Guests must be at least 18 years of age to make a reservation. In the interests of security and to prevent fraud, guests are required to confirm their identity by providing their valid government-issued photo identification (State driver’s license, passport, etc.) at check-in. A valid signed and pre-approved credit card in the guest’s name is also required.

Room Rates:

Our lodging rates are based on room sizes, amenities, and occupancy. Rates are subject to availability and may vary at any time. Texas sales tax of 6% and a required lodging tax of 7% are added to all room rates.

Room Occupancy:

Room occupancy requirements are based on fire code/fire safety restrictions. If you exceed the maximum number of guests allowed, you will be required to reserve another guestroom for proper accommodations or to vacate the property if no additional guest rooms are available. Occupancy violations are a policy violation, and no refund for unused time or rooms will be made in this circumstance.

Payments:

Payment for your entire reservation is collected at the time of your reservation and may be paid via American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, or Bird & Butterfly gift certificates. Regardless of the payment method, we require a valid credit card number on file. Please note that gift certificates are considered a form of payment, so please call the inn between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT to make your reservation and apply your gift certificate.

Cancellation Policy:

Due to the small size of our property, cancellations affect us significantly. For any individual cancellation or change of date, please contact us no later than 15 days prior to arrival by telephone for a refund of your deposit, less a $50.00 per room cancellation fee.

If a full or partial cancellation or change of dates is made less than 15 days, regardless of reason, you are financially responsible for the entire reservation.

All group bookings require a 45-day notice to cancel, change dates, or length of stay, with a cancellation fee of 10% of the entire cost of your reservation deducted from your refunded amount.

We encourage the purchase of travel insurance to provide reimbursement due to personal health issues, family emergencies, or travel delays.

Check-in and Check-out:

Check-in is between 4 – 7 p.m. Please confirm a specific arrival time via email if possible or respond to reminder email 48 priors to arrival. If you arrive before check-in time, you are welcome to enjoy the grounds, but please note that early access to your room may not be available. If you plan on arriving after 7:00 p.m., please call (409) 383 1301 in advance for special arrangements.

Check-out is at 11 a.m. If you want to continue to enjoy your time in Jasper County, please check out on time, but you may use our parking area until 3 p.m.  If any personal items are forgotten, please contact us directly to request their return. Shipping fees will be charged to your credit card on file. Items will only be held for 30 days.

Aaaaand, now to the not-so-fun stuff:

Children:

The Bird & Butterfly Inn is primarily an adult destination.  Please remember that this is a riverfront property approximately a mile downstream from the Lake Sam Rayburn Dam, and we’re adjacent to a national forest.  As such, we have natural hazards including swiftly moving water, venomous snakes, and poison ivy, to name a few.  Children aged 14 and above are welcome if you are booking the full property (all guest rooms).  However,  the property is unsuitable for infants, toddlers, or small children and we must ask that you book elsewhere if you or your party has very young children.  The safety of all guests is our top priority and we are happy to make recommendations to other properties in the area that are more appropriate for travelers with young children.

Noise Ordinances:

For the comfort and convenience of all guests, The Bird & Butterfly Inn has “Quiet Time” between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. We ask our guests to be respectful of your neighbors and to not congregate in halls or public areas where noise will disturb others.

Breakage or Damage to the Property:

Any damage caused by guests to the property, inside or outside of your room, including but not limited to carpet stains, soiled furnishings, broken windows, or damaged appliances, beyond reasonable wear and tear, will be the responsibility of the guest and repair and replacement charges will be charged to the credit card on file.

Smoking Discouraged:

For the comfort and safety of our guests, all interior areas of the property are entirely smoke-free, prohibiting the use of cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes and marijuana in compliance with Texas state laws.  Smoking inside will result in a $500 cleaning fee charged to the credit card on file.  While smoking is permitted on the grounds, it is only permitted in designated areas and we urge you to remember we are located in a national forest. For the safety of the property, the forest, and other guests, do not throw any butts or matches on the ground, but instead dispose of them only in the receptacles provided.

Pet Policy:

While we are pet lovers, for the comfort and safety of our guests, we do not allow pets of any kind to visit or stay at The Bird & Butterfly Inn except for registered service animals. Please call us for a recommendation for boarding your pet. If you violate the pet policy, you and your pet will be asked to vacate the property. Pet violations are a policy violation, and no refund for unused time or rooms will be made in this circumstance. A $250 cleaning fee will be charged to the credit card on file. Any additional damage found will be the guest’s responsibility, and repair or replacement charges will be charged to the credit card on file.

Candles, Incense, Essential oils:

The use of candles, incense, and/or essential oils (diffusing, vaporizing, etc.) in any guest room is prohibited. These items and activities will be treated as smoking, a fine accessed, and the guest may be asked to leave with no refund.

Alcohol Policy:

Registered guests of legal age are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. While alcohol can be consumed in public areas, we ask that you consume responsibly and take care to pick up after yourself – cans, bottles, can tabs, or bottle caps are to be disposed of properly.

Alcohol consumed during special events served by a licensed caterer with permit to serve/sell alcohol is restricted to those 21 years old or older (valid photo identification required) and can only be consumed at that event venue.

Your Safety on the Property:

The Bird & Butterfly Inn is a natural setting that comes with obvious hazards. Please be careful of holes in the ground that may be hidden, venomous snakes and poison ivy, to name a few. We do want you to enjoy the grounds but be mindful of possible risks.

We do not provide kayaks or canoes, but guests are welcome to bring their own. Guests choosing to kayak or canoe must provide their own life jackets and sign a liability waiver.

The Bird & Butterfly Inn is on the Angelina River, approximately one mile downstream of the Sam Rayburn Lake Dam. All guests should be aware of a loud horn signaling the imminent opening of gates at the dam. When these gates open, the water level can rise quickly and dramatically, and the current could become hazardous to kayakers and canoeists. When you hear the horn, please get yourself and your craft on land. We do want you to enjoy the water here while being mindful of risks.

Lost and Found Policy:

The Bird & Butterfly Inn assumes no liability for lost, misplaced, stolen or damaged valuables or belongings. If you discover you have left something behind, please contact us immediately at (409) 383 1301. We will make every effort to locate your lost item. Shipping fees will be charged to your credit card on file. Items will only be held for 30 days.
