The Allure of a Small Texas Wedding

While there are many benefits to a small wedding, one positive of a compact guest list is the amount of versatility afforded to the happy couple. Planning for hundreds of guests can mean sacrificing certain choices to accommodate a large crowd. With a small wedding, you and your partner can focus on personal touches and prioritize the things that matter most to you. Embrace natural surroundings with a cozy, small-scale venue or splurge on catering from your favorite restaurant without worrying about feeding hundreds of guests. The decision to limit your guest list can offer more flexibility and less stress, allowing the two of you to focus on the most important wedding guests – yourselves.

Why Choose The Bird and Butterfly Inn for your Wedding Venues in Texas

The Bird & Butterfly Inn provides the perfect setting for your picturesque wedding venues in Texas. Tie the knot against the backdrop of the Angelina River and the beautiful Piney Woods surrounded by your closest friends and family at our east Texas bed and breakfast.

Our beautiful outdoor deck, affectionately called “the wedding deck,” offers the perfect natural venue for your special day. Up to sixty guests can gather on the deck to watch the two of you tie the knot beneath the rustic wedding gable. Adorn the deck with fairy lights, your favorite flowers, or wedding garlands to personalize the setting for the ceremony.

After exchanging vows, return to the inn for a cozy reception. Keep the reception casual or arrange for chairs and tables complete with white linens. Our on-site wedding coordinator can help you choose local vendors from florists to caterers to make your reception memorable and stress-free.

With our two larger weddings, you and a small party are on the property for two nights, but you’re welcome to arrive even a few days prior to indulge in the comforts of our luxurious inn and relax and unwind before the big day. With key guests on the property with you, why not plan your rehearsal dinner here! Our spacious dining room can seat twenty guests, making it a great spot for an intimate dinner.

Small Wedding Venues in Texas Inspiration

With small weddings comes lots of flexibility! Whether you decide to stick to the bare necessities or make your day a small but extravagant party, here are some ideas to get your creativity flowing.

  • Personalize everything. Trade the stress of accommodating a large crowd for the fun of adding a little flair to every element of your special day. From a look-alike cake topper to monogramed reception favors, there are plenty of ways to add personal touches to your ceremony and reception.

  • Incorporate local flavors. With a smaller guest list, you’ll have broader catering options. Splurge a little and order from your favorite spot or find an east Texas restaurant to infuse some authentic southern flavor. Whether you’re wanting delicious BBQ, or a selection of little bites for your reception, we have local options to add a taste of Texas to your special day.

  • Organize a cozy reception. Keeping your reception party smaller means you have ample time to mingle with guests. We have beautiful outdoor spaces for guests to gather, including the viewing deck overlooking the Angelina River, our boardwalk with café tables, and the generous front porch with rocking chairs. For the summer months, we have a beautiful living room complete with a lovely fireplace, many seating options, and décor that is sure to spark memories and start conversation while guests enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks.

Small Wedding Tips

We want your small wedding to be just as you’ve always dreamt it. Here are some of our tips for making sure your very special day flows smoothly.

  • Budget wisely. We recommend splurging on the things most important to you and evaluating what are the truly “must-haves” to make the day special.

  • Choose the right vendors. You want vendors experienced with smaller weddings and who understand your vision for the big day. Our on-site wedding coordinator is an excellent resource to match you with those local businesses.

  • Plan a timeline. Outline the order of events and carefully plan transitions. A smooth flow between the ceremony, reception and post-wedding activities will prevent any awkward pauses for guests.

  • Set the day with music. We built our “wedding and event deck” with all parts of your wedding in mind. Our gable was constructed to provide electrical power so after the ceremony, your DJ or even a small live band can have all the power they need to create the soundtrack for a fun party.

  • Choose the perfect time of day. You might want an early afternoon event … or maybe you want a night-time wedding! If your event takes you past sunset then The Bird & Butterfly Inn is the perfect choice. We have over 1,000 linear feet of string lights bringing beautiful light to the boardwalk, both decks, the outdoor kitchen, the farm table area and even our driveway.

Picture-Perfect photo Ops

When it comes to capturing every minute of your special day, The Bird & Butterfly Inn has an abundance of scenic spots for photos!

Start on the wedding deck and pose for the perfect couples photo, then gather the wedding party on the steps for a group shot. Afterwards, walk the grounds for a rustic portrait set among the pine and oak trees of the Piney Woods or wander out to our terraced garden and waterfall.

Head towards the inn for a great group photo on the wrap-around porch or pose in front of our terraced flower beds. Even our beautifully decorated guest rooms make excellent backdrops for family photographs or pictures of the bridesmaids and groomsmen getting ready.
