Wine dinner paring event: Wednesday, July 24, 2024

We are so happy to announce our next wine pairings dinner with our host, Certified Sommelier Molly Austad. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 24, 2024, and plan to join us at 5:30pm. Cost for the evening will be $175 per person (plus tax), and the wines presented are complimentary with your ticket.

The theme of the night is “folklore.” Molly will invite you to step into a world where myth and history intertwine, and discover the tales that have shaped our favorite wines. Each course will be paired with wines that carry their own legends, from ancient vineyards to mystical terroirs.

Get ready for an evening filled with rich narratives and exquisite flavors. As Molly moves through each course, you’ll experience wines steeped in tradition and lore, each with its own unique story to tell.

Also, this will be our final wine pairings event for 2024, but we’ll shortly be announcing details of our October “Spirits Night.” Something totally different, and totally fun.

About Molly Austad, Certified Sommelier

Molly Austad Join us at our Texas bed and breakfast for this curated event!
Molly has a great pedigree and we’re so excited to have her host! After earning a degree in Design and Media Arts from UCLA, she secured an internship in Paris, working with fashion designer Jasmin Santenen. Her time in Paris afforded her the opportunity to explore Europe and she particularly enjoyed spending weekends in Burgundy, where her interest in wine was sparked. Returning to the US, she commenced her pursuit of a career in hospitality with a six-year engagement with McGuire Moorman Hospitality and earned her first Court of Master Sommeliers certificate in 2014 while under the tutelage of Master Sommelier June Rodil. In 2016 she earned her Certified Sommelier degree and became the Beverage Manager at Jeffrey’s of Austin in 2019. She made the move to Houston and the Pappas Brothers Steakhouse, serving as a Sommelier under Master Sommelier Steven McDonald but in 2020, was wooed by Aaron Bludorn to join Bludorn Restaurant as Wine Director, under the tutelage of Master Sommelier Jack Mason. In 2022, the restaurant expanded to open Navy Blue, where Molly also serves as Wine Director. She is making plans for her Advanced Sommelier designation and is enjoying curating Bludorn’s wine program, which emphasizes both French and native varieties. As Molly says, “Wine is not just a beverage; it’s a journey through time, culture, and nature. I love wine because each bottle tells a story, reflecting the terroir, the climate, and the artistry of its maker. It’s fascinating how a single sip can transport you to different corners of the world, unraveling layers of flavors and history.”

The evening's menu

First course:

Philippe Fourier Blanc de Noirs with goat cheese and caramelized onion tart

About the wine:
Pinot Noir from the Aube has a softness to it, a more rounded texture than from the Marne further north. That is the fine essence of this Champagne with its richness and crisp aftertaste.

Second course:

Gustave Lorentz Gewurztraminer Reserve with arugula summer salad of avocado, citrus, spiced pecans and citrus vinaigrette

About the wine:
Expressive floral nose with hints of rose and fragrances of apricot and tropical fruits. Supple mouth feel, fresh, complex and rich but still elegant and food friendly due to its freshness. Aromas of exotic fruits and different spices and a peppery/ginger finish.

Third course:

Peirano Estate Vineyards Heritage Old Vine Zinfandel with mushroom risotto and Parmesan crisp

About the wine:
Aromas of big, blackberry jam, ripe strawberries, along with a dark berry medley and orange blossom honey marry together to put your olfactory senses into a new dimension. The palate is wrapped in a mysterious, velvety layered mix of sweet blackberries, strawberries and blueberry compote followed by a healthy dose of chocolate on the finish.

Fourth Course:

Malvira Roero Nebbiolo 2020 & Etienne Becheras St Joseph Rouge Le Prieure d’Arras 2020 with beef tenderloin with blue cheese butter and garlic whipped potatoes

About the wine: Bright berry fruit and spice appear first, followed by more savory hints of iron, leather smoke and tobacco. This is a wine of significant character and complexity that will only continue to impress with age.

About the wine:
The Etienne Becheras Saint Joseph is a captivating Northern Rhône Syrah, known for its deep, dark fruit flavors intertwined with earthy, peppery notes. Each sip reveals a luxurious texture, balanced by vibrant acidity and fine tannins.

Fifth course:

Marenco Brachetto D’Acqui Pineto with raspberry tiramisu

About the wine:
100% Brachetto from a single vineyard owned by the 3 Marenco sisters. Delicate, effervescent ruby red with aromas of rose & raspberry- semi sweet & extra charming.

Cancellation Policy - Transfer Only

Due to the limited seating of this event, tickets are non-refundable. However, they are transferable and can be transferred to a friend. If you transfer, you must call us and provide the name and email of the attendee(s) as we will need to contact them to provide the menu for their review and assure there are no dietary issues. If you are unable to transfer your tickets, you remain financially responsible for the reservation and no refund will be given.
